Mikey Fishhook
Mikey is a painter, tattoo artist, and illustrator. Art and Tattoos have held a special place for him since childhood. Growing up in Queens; his Grandfather often took him to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Seeing works by the Old Masters like Rembrandt,Velazquez; as well as Art from other cultures left a profound influence on him. His Father introduced him to the work of Frank Frazetta, and to Tattoo Magazines; which he furiously tried to copy with crayons.This early inspiration lead him to study Fine Art, Comic Book Illustration, Life Drawing and Anatomy, and Portrait Painting at The High School of Art & Design, The Art Students League, and the School of Visual Arts; where he studied with renowned realist painter Steven Assael for 4 years. He received a BFA in Illustration from SVA in 2001. He also earned his Masters in Art Education from Hofstra University in 2005; and taught Elementary and High School Art before becoming a Tattoo Artist.His preferred styles to work in are American Traditional, Neo-Traditional, Japanese, and West Coast Black & Gray. When he is not tattooing or painting at Beacon Tattoo or Live Wire Arts; you can find him out fishing or playing his guitar.
